Who we are

Who we are

The Australian Medical Professionals' Society (AMPS) is a professional association whose principal purpose is to protect and promote the interests of members in matters concerning their employment or professional engagement. Membership is open to doctors and allied health professionals alike - AMPS is typically led by doctors, but allied health practitioners are a valued part of the membership. No membership fees are used to support any political party (including the ALP). Your fees go towards supporting members with their workplace issues. AMPS is independent, and you choose who represents you.

As part of the Red Union Support Hub network, moving between Australia and New Zealand is easy - members transitioning to New Zealand are looked after by our sister association NZMPS.

What we believe

What we believe

The Australian Medical Professionals' Society is a group of doctors and allied health professionals who believe every practitioner should be free to choose who represents them. They want to provide an alternate voice to the AMA. Led largely by doctors committed to the Hippocratic oath and to defending the practitioner-patient relationship, they joined other workers who had formed independent associations under the Red Union banner.

AMPS supports:

  • The primacy of the doctor/patient relationship, with Government bureaucrats being removed from the surgery room.
  • Making it easier for doctors to speak out publicly. AMPS believes doctors should be free to share their medical opinions without fear of regulatory action.
  • The removal of AHPRA from monitoring doctors on social media and voicing their medical opinions.
  • Resisting Government Coercion.
  • The ability to speak out about refugee health without fear of de-registration.
  • Resisting Government mandates.
  • Protecting doctors' clinical judgement in what they can prescribe and recommend.
